You sure there isn't an importers serial number listed someplace else on the firearm? Sometimes they use the OG one and other times I've seen them use their own that they engrave on the gun.

Sounds like based on that ruling in 2002 the firearm would have not been in compliance when it was imported, now if it was imported prior to that ruling I don't see how ATF suggests a dealer would record that in their book. Only that cyrilic would not be considered legible since its not in Roman or Arabic lettering and numbering. Any further advice on this one Quiet. I have had a couple of japanese handguns (like a nambu) that only had imperial markings on it. After some research we were able to find what the characters mean and when and where it was manufactured, but in that case we logged it in as "Japan and Nambu" and appropriate caliber and serial. Even though those were not marked on the pistol itself.

What do you suggest we do going forward with these odd type guns. If I recall this nambu was a WW2 bring back trophy gun and was never imported by an FFL.
