    Threaded Barrels on AR Pistols

Does the muzzle device on a registered semi auto, California compliant, AR pistol need to be pinned and welded?

Much thanks in advance for your input.

A semi-auto pistol with a fixed, 10 or less round, magazine can legally have features that would be restricted on a semi-auto pistol that does not have a fixed magazine.

Semi-auto pistol that does not have a fixed magazine and has:
        A. a threaded barrel = illegal assault weapon [PC 30515(a)(4)(A)]
        B. a second handgrip = illegal assault weapon [PC 30515(a)(4)(B)]
        C. a shroud = illegal assault weapon [PC 30515(a)(4)(C)]
        D. the capability to accept magazines outside of the pistol's grip = illegal assault weapon [PC 30515(a)(4)(D)]

Semi-auto pistol that has a fixed magazine and has:
        A. a threaded barrel = legal semi-auto pistol with a fixed magazine
        B. a second handgrip = legal semi-auto pistol with a fixed magazine
        C. a shroud = legal semi-auto pistol with a fixed magazine
        D. the capability to accept magazines outside of the pistol's grip = legal semi-auto pistol with a fixed magazine

In order to be CA legal, an AR15 style semi-auto pistol must operate using a fixed, 10 or less round, magazine; because the AR15 design accepts magazines outside of the pistol's grip.
Because it must operate using a fixed magazine, the AR15 style semi-auto pistol can legally have a threaded barrel, second handgrip*, and shroud.
*this does not allow the firearm to violate Federal NFA laws, so the second handgrip needs to be compliant with Federal NFA laws.
