    Elderly handicapped and consignment question

I have an elderly handicapped relative that may soon be transferring to a care facility. He has a few guns that he hasn’t used in years and they won’t be going with him.

Trying to figure out options. Was thinking we could put them on consignment at an LGS to least get some money for them, but he is physically unable to go into a store to drop them off and fill out any paperwork. Are there any FFLs that have experience with this and can provide advice? Is there such a thing as an FFL doing a home visit to pick up the firearms and have the owner sign whatever paperwork is necessary?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide. This would be in the Visalia/Fresno area btw.

UPDATE: we are all set with a solution. Thanks for the responses on here and for the few DMs I received as well. This forum is always super helpful and I appreciate it.

Does a POA cover anything and everything, or does it need to specify firearms? I am clueless on this, thanks!

It covers anything that is listed in it. House, cars, guns, be specific "personal property" is a little broad and could include everything including bank accounts.

The POA information is useful, but I'm interested to know if the OP's original thought is an option? Assuming it is legally permissible, could a Dealer make a "House Call" for an acquisition or consignment pickup? They may require a fee, but I can see circumstances where it could be a good option for some. Just learning.

Notarized doesn't require witness signatures. The Notary signature is enough.

POA can be limited to management of property and personal affairs. That's how we structured my mother's Trust. I could conduct business (banking, credit cards, etc.) but I couldn't get her committed.

For future readers and similar questions, what was the solution?

Meant to say: "or signed by at least two witnesses."

The OP and I traded PMs. They are getting a Power of Attorney.

We've sort of discussed this on other posts; I don't think that there isn't anything that would preclude a FFL from going to the customer to pick up firearms for consignment. The only issue is, do you still need to get a signature and thumbprint on the acquisition documents? Worst case, the FFL could make two trips. Or bring a portable printer...

I know you can't sell except at your place of business but that doesn't apply to buying. As I have said before, LSB in Simi Valley does this all the time and they are way to big to be flying under the DOJ radar.
