    Legacy DL vs Real ID

Is there a requirement to have Real ID to purchase?

I currently have a "legacy" ID.

I renewed my license at the end of 2017. In 2018 the requirement for Real ID was implemented.

My DL does not say Federal Limits Apply.

It does not possess the Golden Bear.

It does not expire till my birthday in 2023.

Will I need to bring my passport or is that an individual FFL requirement?

    Any guidance is appreciated.

Birth certificate or passport along with your ID when buying, in addition to prof of residency and FSC.

If you’re selling, some FFLs require proof of citizenship as well.

If it doesn't say Federal Limits Apply your birth cert or passport are not needed.

NOPE......You got 3/4ths right but with the legacy ID the Birth-cert is not needed.

ALSO......There is not a requirement that one must be a citizen to sell a firearm, nor own or posess one legally either. Think about permanent residents....or our friends here on a visa with a hunting license....

I say get the real ID whenever you can such as when your DL expires next year, seems that it just makes things more simple whenever buying a firearm.

When they phase in travel restrictions you cannot travel with fl limits apply d/l without passport to prove citizenship. I got the wallet passport card as well.

Yeah, probably a good idea to get both Edgerly. I have the real, passport and wallet card for the passport. I travel a lot and when I fly I take both, but leave one in the room, luggage wherever that way if one gets lost, stolen whatever I can still get on the plane. Good stuff to have all of them, plus you never know when something will happen like an invite onto a military base or having to go to federal court, all of those will require the real ID soon.
