Price wars and making up costs on the consumer's sweat blood and tears adding a sprinkle of lack of what's available is what made this state great and evil at the same time.
With that being said 75-125 is what will make you or break you. I paid 75-90
5 years ago and thought that was high. I want to go back to those days since we still on GEN3 but with the passage of time (KH) sadly it's not happening.

In SoCal, I've gotten quotes from $50-250 + DROS fees.
Average price is between $60-80 + DROS fees.sigpic

Nor Cal $40.00 + DROS. That can keep my doors open. Plus it promotes good will and return customers.American soldier by choice. Made in America by the Grace of God.

I've had to pay as cheap as $50+DROS fees for this process, this is reasonably a good price. I've called other FFL's and they've quoted me $150+DROS fees, I said no thank you, they call them "administrative fees".sigpicComment

I'll bite....
Basically this all comes down to time of transaction vs employee cost and overhead.
In my opinion what most customers see is only the amount of time they spend here in our shop. What they do not ever see is the typical 4-10 phone calls and emails a day asking us various questions about the transfer process, the legality of particular firearms, the "well, what if I did this instead", the time it takes to email online sellers, get CFLCs that didn't get included with the shipments, the time it takes to sit on hold with a vendor who doesn't supply the required documents. The time it takes to open, unpack log in the firearm, the process of logging it out when the customer has left. The hours of auditing time we do yearly to make sure our paperwork is in order. The DAYS it takes out of your year each time ATF shows up for an inspection. The yearly, and tri-yearly fees of FFL renewals, LCM renewals, CFD renewals, the time it takes to sit on hold with the DOJ when they fumble something and we get locked out of the DES. The accounting time it takes to deal with sales tax payments. The employee cost of getting them FSC instructors, their COE and live scan costs. Then we have insurance costs, internet costs, paper, ink, thumbprint inkers, pens, staples, file boxes for decades of ATF paperwork and 3 years plus of DOJ paperwork. The hours it takes every year to destroy the old DOJ records that we no longer have to keep. And then finally the countless hours we've spent online reading forums, penal codes and learing how to quickly process your transaction.
Simply put it seems to me that the $62.81 fee that we get to keep is fair. We're $100 including the dros. So thats my $.02 on this topic.Interstate Transfers $100 (DROS included with the price)

>>>>>> ALSO a lot of the cost is due to CA policies. Our cousin stores in Arizona charge way less for an online transfer. I think they're $20. But that process is quite simpler. With less employee cost. Over there its a quick 4473 an AZ CCW and ID and you're out the door in less than 5 minutes.....Interstate Transfers $100 (DROS included with the price)

Aces,
That was spot on. I was more asking the customer what he thought was reasonable but your response was on point. I think that really explained what it takes to make things happen in California.
Most customers really have no idea and maybe we all need to do a better job explaining the complete process so as to manage everyone's expectations. I know this may sound harsh, but we are a business, not a non profit museum. We are here to make a profit and like every other business, the California legislature has created the regulatory hurdles that lead to the higher work load and subsequent consumer prices. This hidden cost has an effect across most regulated industries within the great state as compared to our neighbors such as AZ, NV and OR. If only customers would remember these things when they vote and understand this is the result of CA politics going back 30+ years.

Go to gunbroker like kingransom said and do an FFL search for your zipcode. It should show local FFL’s and their transfer prices. You’ll see some LOL prices there. You don’t have a favorite FFL to go to?
I’ve seen prices from $50-$150.Last edited by OniKoroshi; 04-04-2022, 10:33 PM.Comment
