    Anyone Own a Range?

    Hey FFLs,

Currently an FFL-01. Business has been good luckily over the last few years. Thinking about opening a range. Contacted a few brokers to find a property to do it in Orange County, but they can't find anything.

Anyone got any advice, have any experience opening a range, or maybe I'm lucky, does anyone own a building and willing to lease it?

    Regards,
    Jay

Look into the NRA range development seminar lots of good info.
$1 million or more for 20 lanes not including the building itself.

A gunshop here in town tried that, and tried selling memberships beforehand. The bank wouldn't make the loan unless he was able to sell a certain number of memberships. He didn't make it.

If you lease a place you need to spend LOTS of money on environmental controls.

Insurance runs about $4-5K per year.

They used to have one that Tracey Rifle and Pistol gun store ran. The owner of that store is a member here. He would know.

Very expensive for indoor ranges considering the air exhaust (EPA) requirements.

10's or 1000's in EPA air tests before you get the green light to break ground. EPA air tests after all done and if the quality is down you can't operate.
1 mil per lane is a realistic estimate.

Getting if done in CA is not easy.
Good luck and wish you the best.
