Slight change to http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=528256 - that's 2012, long guns need paper on transfer since 2014. Just an addition.

1A. Can I Intra Family Transfer a handgun not registered to me?
Can you successfully accomplish that? Sure. It's becoming rarer as the years go by, but some handguns have not been transferred since 1990 or were moved here before 1998, and those unregistered guns are entirely legal to own, possess, transfer and use.

That's slightly different from 'can I transfer a gun I do not own?' Again, probably get away with it, but there's a risk of the actual owner contesting that transfer.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Thanks so much for the input!

          No.

Still enough unregistered that the check is unlikely to reveal anything interesting.

Come 2040 or so, 50 years after required transfer of handguns through FFL or with OPLAW paper, and DOJ might begin checking.

But even then it's a misdemeanor (in 2022) and seems unlikely they would devote much in the way of resources to the issue.
