Glock 17 listed on the roster does not show which generation. Can I purchase a generation 1&2 G17 from out of state and ship to my CA FFL?

Roster question - Gen 1 or 2 Glock 17

If it does not come with large capacity (11+ rounds) magazines, then yes.
If it comes with large capacity magazines, then no.
^Unless you are an exempt person or if the CA FFL dealer with large capacity magazine permit that is receiving the firearm agrees to permanently alter the magazines into 10 round magazines.
For Glock pistols...
... On-Roster = Austrian made Gen 1-3
... Made in USA = off-Roster.
... Gen 4-5 = off-Roster.
... Color is not back or not OD = off-Roster.sigpic

Yeah, I always felt like this is a Gray Area because there are clearly differences.
I ask DOJ and they went back to the Roster Verbiage.
So Gen 1-3 = OK I guess. No Generation 4 or Generation 5 Glock handguns have been approved as of: Tuesday, December 14, 2021Comment

What he said.
Also...
When the Roster was created, Glock did not publically/officially use a Gen system to differentiate the development of their pistols.
It wasn't until Glock released the Gen 4 pistols that they publically/officially came out with the Gen system, which was mostly copied from what users on Glock forums were using to identify the phases in development of the Glock pistol.
In addition...
Glock Gen 1-3 use the same trigger components and same magazine release system.
Glock Gen 4-5 use different trigger components and different magazine release system that are not compatible with Gen 1-3.
If an on-Roster handgun has a variant that has a different (dimensions, material, linkage, etc.) magazine well, barrel, chamber, or any component of the firearm mechanism; then that variant does not qualify for the exemption to get it listed on-Roster and that variant is considered a different handgun from the on-Roster handgun. Grip angle, length, and dimensions of the magazine well are the same.
Besides the frame texture differences (Gen 1 = non-RTF / Gen 2-3 = RTF), the addition of the finger grooves on the Gen 3, makes the grip feel different than on the Gen 1-2.sigpic

There was a dealer I won't out that was DROSing FDE ones because in the DROS after selecting the (non-OD) the color Drop down has a full list of colors you can pick from.Comment

Black was the standard color, before they made pistols in other colors, and when the CA Roster was created black was the only color available from Glock.
OD is specifically called out, because Glock added them to the Roster using an exemption. [PC 32030(b)]sigpic
