    DOJ Audit

Out of curiosity, I have been open for about 5 months now and I just received a phone call from DOJ about a scheduled audit next week. Granted audits are random, but this seems questionable simply due to not being in business for a year yet. I'm not tripping over the fact the I'm being audited, since all my records are organized!

    Karens out to get me?

    What triggered an early audit?

I wouldn't stress over it, I just did the new dealer webinar last week and they stated they are trying to get to newer dealers sooner rather than later to ensure you are doing everything correctly and fix anything you are not doing right. Look at this as an opportunity to make sure you are all good in their eyes and ask all the questions you may have.

From what I heard, audits are no longer random and *will* happen at least once every two years.

I've been doing this since 2016. I had my fist DOJ audit after about 8 months as I recall. As others have said, I think they try and audit you early to make sure you're on the right track.

It was a good experience. The rep was very helpful and I was able to get answers to a lot of questions I had. I had one minor violation (I didn't have one of my buyers initial the box on the Gunsafe Affidavit). They gave me plenty of time to correct it.

I appreciate the response! Audit just finished, went by super smooth. Two fixable violations - 1. I built a "vault" in my garage to store customers firearms, ammo, etc.., along with the the keyless door knob, I was in violation for not having a deadbolt. 2. Some DROS's I failed to enter FSD lock #'s.

Small take aways - She mentioned what's to come for next year. DOJ is coming down harder on fines, she couldn't tell me to what degree but to just keep an eye out on DES -_-. Accepting 1 day fishing licenses, she advised me to accept it the day of DROS and delivery day. So essentially two 1 day fishing licenses for separate days.

Fsd lock numbers? You mean like the model? R15sc3?

I honestly wish I would have gotten an audit that soon. They waited 6 years before my first one. Thankfully I was squared away and only had about 10 small paper infractions that were cleared up during audit.
