This is mostly off-topic but is at least related to the title. I acquired a pair of Marlin lever actions made in 1970 as a "One of a Thousand" commemorative set. One is a Model 39 and the other a Model 336. I bought them using my C&R license and sent in the paperwork to DOJ as required. They both have the same serial number, something like "836" which designates their place in the 1000 produced.

I got a letter back from DOJ rejecting my registration because thy both have the same serial number. I'm pretty sure they thought it was a clerical error. I sent them back a letter explaining why they are the same SN, but different models. No response yet. I'm curious to see how this works out.

Send them a screenshot from the Colt serial number lookup showing the same serial number on 30+ guns. Ask them how it is any different.

I just typed in a random number (118734) and got 17 different results.
