Newbie - Getting an FFL License???

I have been thinking of getting a FFL license for personal use as well as doing business on the side from out of my home. What would this entail? Could someone point me in the right direction to get information and forms?

    Your help is much appreciated.

There is a related thread here.

Do a search with Oaklander's search tool; there has been much discussion on the topic.

You need to check with your local government (city/county). Some places allow it and others do not, but be warned that some, such as LA County, will lie to you. I happened to get in contact with the person responsible for checking firearms dealers for LA County Sheriff (quite a few years ago). The city that I lived in farmed out the licenses to the county. When I went to the county to get the permit, I was told that they did not issue permits. I responded with the person's name and pager, saying that he told me to have them call if there was a problem. The woman picked up the phone and called someone and told them that I had his name and number. She then gave me the forms.

You will also need a Cert. of Elig from the CA DOJ, as well as being put on the list of firearms dealers for the state. You will need a resale license and any local business licenses/permits. Overall, it is expensive.
