    Help finding lost COE number

I am a current 03 FFL and had a COE in the past. Unfortunately I do not have that number recorded and I need it to apply for a new one.

I have written, emailed and called the DOJ with no success.

Does anyone know of a way to search for a old COE ? Google is not a lot of help. Or a phone number that might get me to someone that could help.

Ok - "operator 204" provided me with my old number, but it is not connected with my cfars account. Apparently once a number is assigned to a person/address it stays assigned even if the COE expires.

So...when I log in cfars can not connect me with my old account.

BUT - when I try to sign up for a new COE it picks up that a COE has been assigned to my name and address and will not let me proceed.

When you sign in to CFARS is there no record of your old COE?

Contact info from the CFARS COE page (below). The problem you may have is they may not give info to anyone they cannot verify identity for, to make sure they are talking to the real person. Let us know what happens

I am currently working with "Operator 204" and no, when I sign in there is no record of my old COE.

I was able to get the number from her, but she also told me that it is not associated with my cfars account.

If your COE is outdated, just get a new one. I don’t think you can let it lapse and then just renew it.

Yes and no. Once a COE number has been assigned to a person it remains assigned to that person even if the COE expires like mine has.

This is the root of the problem. Since my old COE is not associated with cfars, but does comes up under my name and address so I can not just apply for a new one.

Hey - taperxz, I don't dount it, but that is what I am being told now.

I would be happy to share with you the various emails from the DOJ I have received stating that fact.

                Here ya go:

DOJ Response (08/10/2021 09:50 AM): Hello, Please note, once a COE number is assigned to you, it does not change, even if it expires. To continue your application, you need to contact the Customer Support Center for assistance. They can find your previously assigned COE number and correct your CFARS account as needed in order for you to proceed. You may email the Customer Support Center at: firearms.bureau@doj.ca.gov .

And again that is the issue. I try to reapply and because I had a previous COE that has not been associated with my Cfars account it will not let me proceed.

It is a glitch in the system and I am sure it will work out. At least they are now returning emails.
