    initial ATF inspection

    hello!

do any of you existing FFLs remember what the initial ATF inspection was like? Is it more like an "interview" than a regular ATF inspection?

Mine was a full blown "inspection" with a rather "bitchie" inspector who probably was reassigned from the vineyards and didn't like her new assignment. The second one was more informative and instructional. I tend to think that's how they are performed currently.

ah i see. how do they do an "inspection" if there is nothing to inspect? because i dont have my ffl, i wont have books because i haven't begun selling, probably wont have inventory either.

do they just want to see you have everything in place for when you get the ffl?

Mine was fairly easy. While I was not completely setup either, I showed her where the business was to be conducted, how firearms were to be secured, security system in place, cameras and then we sat down and she went over the laws and how to ensure the 4473 was filled out properly in California. Overall it was about an hour long and was a lot easier than I was expecting.

ah i see, good to hear that i don't need to be fully set up yet. so i should have the safe(s) for storing and securing the firearms and the security system in place. on top of like a desk and printer and filing cabinet etc etc.

should that be good enough for the initial inspection you think?

Lockable filing cabinet. My insp. pointed that out to me...

Mine was more informative then anything. She looked around some and then went through her checklist. More recently (January'21) I moved locations, and did it on the phone in combination with Facetime (so she could look around).
