    Importing?

One of my regular customers has asked me to get her a hard to find shotgun that is going to be part of a charity auction or raffle. I can't find one anywhere at any price, except I did find one at a retailer in Canada.

I don't think my 01 FFL allows me to import a firearm from Canada.

    True?

Verify with ATF but I believe you can do a form 6A part I (its on the ATF e-forms site) and once approved you can import. You will also need to give CBP the 6A in duplicate and they will forward 1 copy to ATF and one back to you - you have 15 days from release from customs to send your copy to ATF.

I seem to recall (when doing my Type 08) a note about non-importers being able to upon specific customer request for an item as opposed to importing for inventory in a store.

Expect a couple months delay in processing the 6A.

edit: ask for the "imports branch" 304-616-4550
You may also need to get a customs broker to deal with e-submission via ACE and deal with everything. There is also often a bond required to cover custom and port duties.

You can as an 01 but it is limited. I did it for some rifles a long time ago. The hardest part was arrange the customs clearance and shipping
