Interstate Fees and waiting period

Are you serious? So, you choose to buy a gun out of state and expect a local dealer (who you didn’t buy a gun from) expecting them to facilitate your transfer and then complain about a fee? Maybe you should have checked first prior to buying the gun what FFLs charge in your area.Hi CGNers.
I am inquiring and curious what you guys are paying/paid for interstate fees at your LGS. I just paid 100 plus tax alone for interstate fees and it really caught me off guard.
Also today 5/17 was DROS and the LGS stated the earliest I am able to pick up is on 6/8 @ 1pm That is over the 10 day mark, even including Memorial Day.
Not even going to speak on the terrible customer service at this particular store. (That’s a story for another day)
Any input is appreciated,
Thank you
Plus, you have it all wrong on your pick up date! There’s no way they told you to pick up on 6/8. If your official 10 pick up is the 17th, 6/8 is the day you must pick up by or have to start another background check. 6/8 would be your 30 day limit.
You ask this here on Calguns because of you not knowing how things work and then wonder why FFLs need to charge for transfers. A lot of it is because FFLs have to constantly deal with people who have no knowledge on the subject.
Sometimes transfers are easy peezy but then there’s the ones that are a PIA and aren’t worth doing. The fee to transfer gun reflects the medium of doing these transfers.
If you paid $100 in the Bay Area, you got off cheap.Last edited by taperxz; 05-28-2021, 8:53 AM.Comment

30 days would be 6/16. So the 6/8 date is a wtf / mystery. Pickup window should have opened yesterday.
I agree $100 is a very reasonable fee in the BayComment

My apologies. 5/27 was date of dros, not the 17th. (Pick-up date 6/8 @1PM). As stated above, I should have done my due diligence and inquired price first. That is the market price and now I know. I never asked and inquired about how it works The main focus here was the cost and what others are paying along with the waiting process. (Which is longer than 10 days, even with Memorial Day included)
Considering this LGS, received this lower on 4/27 and wasn’t able to dros till now 5/27. They said they’ll call me once it’s processed on their end and I never received that phone call. Few weeks in, I stopped by and they stated they were still not ready. On the weekend of May 22nd, I was lucky to get through via phone and they said it would be ready the end of the week. When I arrived they were not able locate the item. They started asking me questions where it came from, when it came..etc. (shouldn’t this be in their processing process?)
Being that there are 5 person max capacity in the store and only 3 people actually in the store at that time... it shouldn’t take 2hr 20mins to DROS. I had four 4 reps that working on my dros as one passed it to another during the process. They were not tentative with customer service as other tasks are more important I guess.Last edited by gsrturboek; 05-28-2021, 2:04 PM.WTB HK USP Compact 45Comment

Down here it is a hundred bucks including dros. Tax is due unless you prove you paid it..Comment

It always pays to shop around the fees can vary widely. My favorite I've encountered when people enquire on phone at gun shops I've helped out at is if we charge to have a gun shipped in. My response always was is we don't work for free, do you?Comment

A month to dros, yeah sure. O_o If that is your preferred service, more kudos to you.
You make a solid point. I did some research with other LGS and have a better idea now. Any idea why the waiting process is over 10 days? Appreciate your input.

There should be no reason to wait more than 10 days unless your release date is on the one or two days they are closed.Comment
