So how are you guys keeping records for transfer tax? Do you just keep all the invoices? do you write it down? I out the tax on the invoice when I do the transfer, but what does the CDTFA look for? Are they just going to see you generally charge the tax and accept it or are they going to go through it all? Since invoices are sent in 1000 different formats, invoices, recipes, emails, etc. how do you keep them? Do you keep them with the packets? do you keep them in a file separate?

I keep them with the sales receipt for the transaction. I separate my sales receipts, 4473s, and DROSs (3 piles).
As far as what they look for? I'm not sure, but I was audited by the IRS in 2014 and they seemed ok with what they reviewed. I don't know how detailed they went into everything. I had someone represent me and just provided what they asked for. I don't recall them going through all the receipts so it may not have been at the same level of detail as a BOE/CDTFA audit might be.UG Imports - Fremont, CA FFL - Transfers, New Gun Sales
