I knew I read it someplace since we are talking about interstate transport of firearm for the purpose of transferring/selling. The link you provided does not mention "ship" and leaves the reader to decide. I assume you have more experience since you're a CGN Contributor.

I have not read most of the gun shows laws but it has exemptions (can't really say much about it).


Since we are discussing intrafamilial transfers or interstate succession, per 27 CFR 478.30 it is exempted so you're right.

No, they don't say "must be shipped". Following that logic, a non-licensee from one state could never visit a gun show to sell guns in another state.

And that does not just apply to gun shows, it applies any time. It doesn't matter how the transferer from out of state gets the gun to the FFL so long as it is done legally.

Note that, in order to qualify for the bequest/intestate succession exemption to the Federal laws it requires the giver the be deceased and the receiver to be named in the deceased's will as the recipient of the firearms or for the Courts to declare that the recipient is the legal inheritor of the deceased's firearms.

Who would you recommend to handle this in the Sac/Motherlode area.

My Daughter is at school in TX, and may gift me off-roster at some point. I understand from this thread she can bring it out here, but then it needs to go to FFL for DROS and 10 day for transfer. Thanks Librarian and others for the guidance.

The latter. It has to go through (shipped) from Texas FFL to a CA FFL first before it gets to you. 10 day wait, etc.

Wrong....there is no law stating the firearm must be shipped, only that the transfer takes place at an FFL. In this case bring the firearm to CA, go to an FFL and do an interfamily transfer.

Just because someone is an FFL doesn't guarantee a correct response either -- sometimes we're all confused too :P

I am much further South then you might want to travel, but we do these all the time. I'm in Fremont. Your daughter can ship or drop off in person.

Just because someone is an FFL doesn't guarantee a correct response either -- sometimes we're all confused too :P
