INTRAFAMILIAR TRANSFER

Hi I'm sure this has been asked many times , but just need complete clarity as I've gone to 2 FFL's and received different info from both places . here is the question : If my father visits me from out of state (texas) and brings a handgun to me as a gift , can I legally register this handgun to my name ? or
is the only legal way to register this gun have to be shipped from Texas FFL to a CA FFL ? please help and sorry if I'm repeating a question from someone else before me ..

The latter. It has to go through (shipped) from Texas FFL to a CA FFL first before it gets to you. 10 day wait, etc.

^^^ Wrong more fud,You can accompany your dad to ffl here. if you did not hide your location someone could refer you to ffl that does not have its head up its as5. Here in socal there is ace pawn, shootsocal that are knowledgeable.

Shoosocal is in fullerton dave does them all the time and is cheapest in town for transfer. The only reason for using ffl to ship is if you fail dros it can be shipped back to ffl for your dad to retrieve.

For an intrafamilial transfer, both you and your father must be CA residents for him to "give" it to you. Given the fact the paperwork and $19 check has already been submitted, and a confirmation received from the CA DOJ.

Since he is a resident out of state, the intrafamilial transfer is possible, but you will need to have an FFL fill out the correct paperwork, and go through the process.

The details of the latter option is a bit confusing (at least for me), hopefully someone with more knowledge and/or and an informed FFL can step in and help you.

no, you cannot - not if the two parties live in different states.


OP - your dad can bring it here and present it in person to a CA FFL for transfer to you, *if* that CA FFL allows it. Some will, some will not.

He can also ship it to a CA FFL himself, again *if* the CA FFL allows it.

Otherwise he can use a Tx FFL to ship it to a CA FFL, *if* the TX FFL will enroll in CA DOJ CFLC and apply for and receive a shipment authorization prior to shipment.

In all cases, follow the directions of the CA FFL. In all cases, a CA FFL *must* be used if both parties are not CA residents.

Yes, up to father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, or down to son, daughter, grandson, etc. Not sideways brother sister, etc.

This is exactly what I am saying. If it was a PPT, then yes I 100% agree. Is there a penal code I don't know about, please let me know. I asked my DOJ rep because I didn't know and she told me to have that person go to CFARS. Not to mention there is a form they can fill out and mail in. No FFL required.
