home based FFL in CA

Guys...I searched but did not find much, I live in rural area of a county that does not issue business licenses (sheriff has no requirements either) so I have no worries regarding local licenses or permits. I would like to get my 01 or 07 for gunsmithing and I am getting conflicting information as to whether of not CADOJ will issue the required licenses to a home based business? does anyone have any real information on this

If your county is like Shasta Co. in lue of a "business" license you'll need to get a license (renewed annually) from your local Sheriff Office or PD allowing you to conduct business in your area.

Yes they will.

The State of California does not issue "Business Licenses". Those are applied for through you local county or city clerks office and are subject to local business codes. They are sometimes issued through your local law enforcement entity.
What you will want to have is a Calif. Resale license which allows you to collect Sales and Use Tax.

I can only answer part of your question. I'm a home based FFL and the State did issue me a Centralized Firearms Dealers number and letter. as well as Ammunition Dealer and High Capacity Magazine Permits. However, my county does issue business licenses which I was required to have in order to keep my FFL and obtain the CFD number. I don't know what they do in Counties that don't issues business licenses.

I am also home based, CFD and the same permits that everybody else gets. The problem you might have is with ATF. I had to give them a pending copy of my business license before they would process my FFL01. Then I had to give my FFL01 to the city before they would issue by actual business license. Not sure how that would be handled in your case.

It use to be that if the city or county didn't issue business licenses or require them you have to supply a letter from them stating as much. This is needed for both ATF and DOJ.
