A&D Log - Other, Pistol Grip Shotgun, Shotgun?

In the past I had used Shotgun, but I think this is supposed to be Other, but on some ATF Webinar I saw a reference to Pistol Grip Shotgun..

What do you guys use for this?

Hmm...interesting. We've been DROSing them for awhile. I thought CA does see it as a shotgun which is why the 14" version is an SBS, no? If you didn't click the link this is an 18.5" barreled one and I think there's a 20" barreled one also.

Yeah APW is not acceptable unless it is a NFA item. The reason I put firearm is if you look at the instructions for the 4473. It says firearms that are neither handguns nor long guns. My examiner thought it was fine.

ATF considers a pump action pistol grip 12 gauge with an 18" barrel as an "Other." However the DROS does not have a category for this. I am sure that the state told many people to simply use "shotgun," but the above described configuration does not meet the definition of a shotgun under state law.

This topic has come up in our Title 1 lawsuit. Other examples of guns without a state tyoebin DROS include barreled long gun actions, buntline revolvers, etc.

No Sir, I did not, but I would love to know about the official response from CADOJ as well as the date of occurrence. Their attorney has been playing dumb on the Title 1 case. If they officially had knowledge of a similar title one type firearm, that might prove that they had prior institutional knowledge. Please feel free to PM if you prefer.
