    FFL01 - Selling used guns

Just for further clarification, as a FFL01, can I buy a used gun from my customer, then log it in and re-sell it, not on consignment? If so, what is the process? I thought I needed a secondhand dealer license, but reading a recent thread has piqued my interest.

    Thanks.

Yes, no special license needed, no special requirements. Log it in the same way you would if you received a firearm from a private party shipped to you.

Assuming you have no local requirements that make it different.

Don't you need to do an acquisition DROS? And I seem to remember someone saying that only shows up if you have something like a used goods license. We're a pawnshop so I see acquisition, but does everyone?

I had to ask my DOJ rep about this a few weeks ago. She said I did not need a secondhand license. Just use the "Submit Acquisition" link, then hold it for 30 days before you can sell it.

Can not sell off-Roster handguns to non-exempt persons in CA.

Can only sell off-Roster handguns to:
              1. exempt persons in CA.
              2. buyers in other States, with the firearms being transferred through a FFL in the buyer's state of residence.

I did not add that since OP does not sound like he would would have that clientel not knowing what he can buy and sell as ffl. Very limited client base.

just want to add my approval of the OP and his spelling.

it's extremely rare to see the word "piqued" used correctly.

                  Thank You

I was also told that could be DROS on day 20, the 10 day wait counts towards the 30.

True. 30 day hold and 10 day DROS hold can end simultaneously.

If you want to consign a firearm you have to have a second hand dealers license. Once you have that (and the firearms side of DOJ knows you have it), there is a "Consign" button that appears within the Acquisition system. You can consign an off-roster handgun, but if you do a regular acquisition and not a consignment acquisition, then you can't as the firearm becomes part of your inventory.
