    Dealer Transfer...off roster?

So, I've spent a bit of time searching with no success....here's my dilemma:

I found a Springfield SS TRP on Gunbroker; no model #. Seller (good ratings) said it had the ILS, but no tag on the box. Since the SA website shows it as CA compliant, I went ahead with the purchase.

With shipping delays, we were jammed to get it completed before my FFL took off for the holidays- got a call about 7-days in saying that the transfer was rejected, so I just said "enjoy your time away and we'll pick it up first week of the New Year."

I'm just "thinking ahead" at this point, but assuming the seller stands firm on "All Sales Final" and the gun can't be released to me, am I allowed to relist it and have the FFL ship directly to non-CA purchaser? Or, would it technically have to be a consignment (from the AZ dealer)? Or, what...?

Have seen some other posts about how this particular gun walks a "fine line" of compliance (G10 grips or different model # for a package), so we may explore that, but with some patience, I am sure that I can find the gun here on Calguns if this one gets hung up.

Interested in how other FFLs have dealt with this....sure it's not the first occurrence.

    thx

No reason you couldn't sell and have the ffl ship out of CA for you if it came down to that.

...okay, thanks. That's good to know if it comes down to it....just seems like the gun is kinda unregistered right now, and I'm not sure my FFL would necessarily want to accept and sell from his inventory, not knowing the history.

I always tell people that importing a 'roster' handgun is a lot easier said than done.

You should never attempt to import any gun without your FFL reviewing photos and saying yes or no before making any purchase.

That said, if this really is a no-rail stainless TRP with ILS, and your FFL will not transfer it, you may have selected your transfer FFL poorly.

Yes in theory you should be able to have the first FFL ship it to another FFL.

Rejected? The dealer selects the firearm manufacturer and model from the drop down in DES, I don’t understand how it can be rejected for that unless I am missing something.

That aside as others have said you should be able to resell it, and just have the FFL (if he is willing) hold it and send it out for you.

Ya, what does rejected even mean?

....thanks sincerely for the input. Pretty sure it'll all wash out okay, and as long as the worst case is a resell, I'm good with that.

My guy is a Kitchen Table FFL; I actually switched to him from another FFL given the risk of no positive ID on model #. This all came up on the day before he was heading out for a 10-day vaca over the holiday, so I just told him not to sweat it and we'd sort it out when he gets back.

Not exactly sure what officially kicked it back before the 10-day wait, but seems related to the submitted model #...pending corrected paperwork upon his return. Again, insights appreciated.

Agree. Something doesn't add up. Was the DROS rejected? That cannot happen due to anything roster since a dealer handgun transfer uses a dropdown menu -- you cannot even enter an off-roster firearm. A rejected DROS generates 2 letters -- one to the FFL and one to your address on the DROS. That letter should provide more info.

UPDATE: So, I got a call earlier this week- FFL back from vacation and I picked up today! The answers I got were still pretty suspect...apparently he went thru some sort of "justification" process. So here's my question:

When FFL gets a gun transferred in with no model info, is it up to the FFL to identify, based upon serial number or other method? Is that why CA FFL usually ask the sending dealer to identify prior to accepting?

I'm personally okay with the selection (still) on the roster, but just trying to understand.....my thought all along was that it would eventually get registered as the CA version that SA advertises.

                        thanks

....thanks for clarifying. Will definitely make sure to be aware of that and go through all of those steps before any future purchase. REALLY appreciate the dealer-side insights!
