    Multiple Ammo PPT

    Hi everyone,

Hope everyone had a pleasant Thanksgiving holiday and maybe nabbed some Black Friday deals.

I had a question regarding multiple ammo PPTs at the same time at the same FFL.

Do I have to pay the background check for each PPT?

    Thank you in advance.

Depends how your dealer processes it, but you shouldn't have to.

      Multiple Ammo PPT

UPDATE: (Thanks ugimports!) The background check ($1 immediate, $19 up to 30 days to clear) spits out a serial number which is good for a single transfer until it expires. I think it’s good for 24 hours. We still have not tested whether or not you can do the check at Dealer A and use it at Dealer B.

CORRECTED: The dealer can charge $5 for a PPT ammo transfer.

I didn't know the DROS# was good anywhere. What do you mean unlimited transfers until it expires? The moment you use it I thought it was dead.. so if I use that DROS# for 1 transfer with you..and then 10 mins later decided to do another one it will show as "USED"? Or am I not thinking of the same # you are referring to?

Ammo PPT I thought was limited to $5 -- I'll have to find the penal code for it though.

          Very interesting ronlglock.

Situation ended up not playing out as anticipated as the whole thing fell apart when Seller picked a FFL that doesn't even do Ammo PPTs.

But I have met with more than one Seller in the same day and paid for the background check each time, even though I had the previous one's confirmation in my car. Never thought to ask if it could be used again.

            Found it with google:
CA laws requires the ammo vendor to collect sales tax on the transfer and allows the ammo vendor to charge a transfer fee for facilitating the transfer. [PC 30312(a)(2)]

CA regulations limits the ammo transfer fee to $5, when both parties are present for the transfer. [11 CCR 4263]

Nowhere does it say it only can be used once or needs to be used at the same dealer — however that would need to be tested.

You are correct that the PPT limit is $5. I’ve updated my post.
I just did an ammo run today.. the eligibility check turns into the same DROS number used when the ammo transfer occurs. After I completed the ammo transfer for the customer I searched on the eligibility check # and it showed as "used". Appears it can only be used once. Not sure if it can be used at a dealer other than the one that generated it. I doubt it would.

ETA: If you're interested I can send you the DROS # and you can see if you can pull it up on your end (I'm thinking the answer is no)

Does not provide me the option to use again.
