    How to transfer

I friend of the family has a model 94 that was made in 1953 that he is wanting to sell me. He has never registered the weapon. How do I go about legally buying the weapon and registering it? Thanks for the help/advise.

If he is in California you can cash and carry this firearm. Being more than 50 years old it is considered a curio and relic. If they are out of state and shipping it, it must go through an FFL. Unless you have a C&R FFL.

Ya he lives down the street. I'm not clear on what you mean by cash an carry? Do I have to register the weapon through DOJ?

No registration required and no dealer or DOJ involvement required.

You hand him the money and he hands you the rifle. Any receipts are between the two of you.

Just to be sure, give him a copy of your CA DL. That would be the minimum requirement, and would satisfy the BATF.
