    New Resident Question

Hi there, I just moved to CA at the beginning of September and promptly registered my firearms(around 30, if that is a factor). I was hoping to sell or trade a few but was under the assumption that I would have to wait until I received a response from the CA DOJ. Recently it was posed to me that I could actually sell or trade them immediately and I just wanted to check with professionals before I post anything and risk wasting someone's time. Thank you!

This. You can probably still sell them once you get your ID/DL.

You do not need to wait for a response from DOJ. You simply need CA ID/DL.

In fact there was no need to register the ones you wanted to sell at all, if you do it within 60 days of moving here. The law says you have 60 days to either register them or sell them.

        27560.
        (a) Within 60 days of bringing a handgun, and commencing January 1, 2014, any firearm, into this state, a personal firearm importer shall do one of the following:
        (1) Forward by prepaid mail or deliver in person to the Department of Justice, a report prescribed by the department including information concerning that individual and a description of the firearm in question.
        (2) Sell or transfer the firearm in accordance with the provisions of Section 27545 or in accordance with the provisions of an exemption from Section 27545.
        (3) Sell or transfer the firearm to a dealer licensed pursuant to Article 1 (commencing with Section 26700) and Article 2 (commencing with Section 26800) of Chapter 2.
        (4) Sell or transfer the firearm to a sheriff or police department.
But if any are off roster and you don't have CA ID, there can be no sale.

If you sell one before the registration is processed, you will get a rejection letter with your registration for that/those items (no action is needed on your part).
