What Do I Do With This One?

As I've said on prior posts, I'm helping a widow sell her husband's firearms.

She just showed me one of them that I need some advise with. Without getting into too many details, it is not a Colt, but someone has done a bang up job engraving the Colt markings, including the Colt name. From a sales perspective, I think I'm ok declaring that its not really a Colt, but what do I list it as when I enter it in DES as an Acquisition? Or on the DROS for that matter if I sell as a PPT. I think I know the original maker but its mostly an educated guess.

        Have you considered calling ATF?

Dude the OP is asking about the how to do it utilizing the CA system. Why would ATF know anything about it.

No other identifying marks Nardo? No importer or anything? Or was it removed when the fancy work was done?

I have not really considered asking ATF yet although that may still be a reasonable path. I was mostly focused on how I get it into DES as an acquisition but I face the same issue getting it logged into my A&D book once I take possession.

No other marks. There is a an area on the frame that looks to have been polished where I suspect the original maker's name was.

Funny thing, the work wasn't fancy at all. It was just block letters like the original Colts. It looks like the guy was trying to make it look like a Colt rather than taking some liberties as a part of fancy engravings. I didn't know the guy and can't guess his motives. Maybe he just liked Colts...

It was so well done I thought it might have actually been a Colt but the SN doesn't show up in the Colt database and the work was almost too good. Sharp edges, that kind of thing.

Interesting. I wonder if that was legal in the first place?

Ya, I'm kinda wondering that too. I assumed only the SN was sacred, but maybe not.

Yea, now they need to heed PC 23925 and follow sections 1-5 to the letter.
