    A&D Book Question

If I have multiple acquisitions from the same party, can I type the party's information on a label and glue/tape the label in my A&D book? Trying to avoid all that writing...

    Thanks.

I believe the regulation if you are using paper books is that the entry has to be in ink.

Makes sense. Now that I think about it, stickers could be removed.

I’ve seen ATF inspectors what different things. I write the name and address or FFL info on the first Line and use down arrows covering the rest of them that immediately follow. Been doing it this same way over 25 years. Never had an ATF inspector complain about it. I have found most inspectors want it to be neat legible and make sense and they’re good with it. Your mileage may vary.

The bound book is an ATF requirement. Do what ATF wants and tell DOJ to take it up with the ATF inspector If they don’t like it. Had to do this when DOJ tried to tell me how to fill out the 4473 in direct violation of ATF requirements. Never had issues with ATF. DOJ on the other hand are PITA. I don’t miss them one bit.

AFT requires “permanent “ notations in the A&D book. Stickers do not meet that requirement as the glue fires out eventually. ATF has advised me that “dittos”
can be used for redundant information.

I was not planning to use sticker material for that reason. I was planning to use plain paper that I'd glue to the book using wood glue. It would never come off. But I agree there is a perception it could come off. I'm good with ditto marks. Also have a call into my ATF agent but no return call yet.

              Thanks for the info.

                  Labels also fade.

ATF specifically notes "permanently bound book". Not sure that a glued in piece of paper would be considered within that caveat.

Nope no rule that bound book entries must be in pen. We always used pencil and never had any issues. Also I had a auditor tell me my C&R book had to be in pen, I told her if she could show me an actual regulation stating such I would comply, she called a few weeks later and said she could find no such regulation.

Over three decades and a few audits and no issues.

Same with the books at the 01 I worked at. We were audited every year. Sold thousands of guns. No issues with using pencils foe A&D books.

I've always used ink, and if there's multiple entries under same person, just put the name in the next entries:

We have been using Excel for A&D for almost a decade. Wes at Ten Percent Firearms originally supplied us the template in 2011. Makes A&D management MUCH easier, especially with multiple books (A&D, NFA, Manufacturing, Gunsmithing, etc.). You must still print out the pages every few months and keep them in a binder. ATF good with it through five audits. If anyone wants a copy of the base template, email me: info@ebrworks.com
