That’s about it. You’ll have to have the consignor initial the preview page then sign and thumb print the final copy, then retain those.

As for the ppt limit, there is a exemption for an estate but there is a time limit on it but it’s short, maybe 90 days, it’s easy to find the info on the exemption. Will they try to prosecute a widow trying to dispose of her husbands collection legally, probably not.

I think you have to have a 2nd hand dealer license to process consignments. Do you have one of those Nardo? I believe you can not access that portion of the DES without one. We also had done some of these before. We also get the seller to sign a quick document stating the facts of the case. How much you're charging for the service? Length of timeframe? What happens to the firearms if nobody buys them? The fact that the seller will have to pay a DROS fee if he takes them back etc. You should also have the seller fill out the DROS worksheets for each firearm. Sign and thumbprint those. Also the consignment is considered 1 transaction so long as its less than 50 total firearms.

        Thanks guys.

I do have a second hand license. I'm not sure you have to have one to access that part of DES though. I think I have reported acquisitions there when I purchased used firearms from a private party back when I didn't have a SH license. But I know you are correct that I need the license to legally consign firearms (but not to buy and sell - where is the logic in that? ). I think you do need to have it to access CAPSS, but you never need to if all you are doing is firearms.

There is no place on the DROS worksheet for a thumbprint. Ditto on the seller portion of the PPT DROS. Are you saying to have her do it in the margin?

Not the DROS worksheet but the Acquisition record. The first page is a preview page then you have to submit and you will get a final page.

Firearms are not required to be reported thru CAPSS. Just the DES. You’re GTG

                Roger that, thanks.

If the seller finds someone that wants to do a PPT on a firearm before its out of the 30-day purgatory can I do that? There is no 30 day wait on a normal PPT.

Not once you acquire them into the DES as a consignment. Think about it the DOJ has no way to differentiate between you selling it to somebody or the seller doing the PPT once its acquired. To them thats the same thing.
