Gun transfer between widow and a friend

    Hi,

my friend's husband passed away a year ago and left her a few guns that she doesn't need. How can she transfer those to me? Does she legally own them if they belonged to her husband? Can an FFL dealer legally transfer them to me? What is the best way?

    Thanks!

    Are you both in California?

Is your friend the beneficiary of the entire estate, including the guns?

Are the guns California legal at this time?

Need to know what state each party lives in. Everything starts from that. The answers vary wildly from there...

We both live in Cali. As far as the estate goes, he didn't have a will, but since she is the spouse with no kids, she automatically got everything. At least no one has claimed his guns and since she's not into them, she just wants to give them to me. The guns are legal, purchased in Cali. The nuance is, she's a Canadian citizen, but does have a green card. Her husband was a US citizen. She still has his DROS card.

          Thanks.

Definitely have to use ffl. She only needs Id. Ask ffl what they require from her you need fsc or equivalent.

If she has CA ID or DL she can PPT them to you at a FFL. It will not matter that the guns are not registered to her.

Yeah she can just PPT them to you. We just did the same situation, husband passed and she was transferring the guns to his co-worker or some such thing. Both CA residents. He was very dishonest about how much the guns were worth. He paid her $1500 for $6000 worth of guns, she made comments about how she wished they were worth more. We all kept our mouths shut, not our business.

                    Not an uncommon event.
I have it in my will that "they" get at least 3 estimates of price, service and commissions before a weapon is sold.
Not foolproof but it might slow somebody down..

I understand minding your own business but when someone I dont know is taking advantage of someone I know...... that is my business.

We knew neither of them. Didn't find out about what he paid until he picked them up and bragged about what a good deal he got.
