One thing I don't mind about CA laws--CFLCS

I know it is burdensome. I know it should not be required along with all gun laws that hinder the 2A.

But as long as the other laws exist I like that I can run the 5 digits and know that the FFL is legit. ATF EZ check is not that good.

I've had a few bogus FFLs sent to me over the last few months. ATF is investigating them. But they were obvious photoshops and easy to spot.

Never had a problem with the ATF website. In 13 years I have gotten 3 bogus FFLs. All verified as a different address with EZ Check. Works just like CFLC except no need to keep the paperwork

If a person sells privately on gunbroker to someone out of state, how do we verify that we are really sending to an ffl and not someone who is just having it shipped to a random address?

In case it wasn't obvious, nothing I write here should be interpreted as legal advice.

You need the first three and last five of their FFL number. Then go to FFL EZ Check it will show you the address that is associated with that license. Only ship to the address verified on the EZ check website.

Were those fake FFLs matched up with ezCheck ? I use ezCheck before shipping to any out of state FFLs. What should I be looking for on the ones with issues?

I don't need ez check to spot photoshopped ffls. There are other obvious ways to identify i won;t make public here but any FFL should know how to spot the common mistakes.

I'm trying to understand how the ezCheck is worse then our CFLC system based on your OP. It sounded like you've looked up stuff on ezCheck that you otherwise learned to be false and that you don't think the CFLC system has that same flaw.

ez check pops up expired licenses when they are not expired. no extra field showing a LOA. I don't have that issue with cflc. the few times i had a do not ship was from a ca doj error. So I don't need to get LOAs from CA FFLs. saves lots of time.

Ah that's good to know to double check the expired fields. I don't think I've run into an expired license yet and needed to worry about the LOA.
