FFL won't return my weapon, says it's an AW

I have a weapon, a featureless MPA 1SST ca compliant. I added a grip wrap to be ca compliant. No pistol grip. No evil features. A local FFL after accepting it for sale now says it's illegal because it has a "bullet button" and is turning it over to the Sheriff for destruction as an AW. Not an AR. Featureless. Requires a tool to remove the 10 round magazine. I need help. Do I need an attorney?

My advice is worth less than 2 pennies but if it was my situation I would file a police report first for theft. That is free. Risk is police also determine it to be an aw. If they do then next step is lawyer.
I suggest this because it has to be done fast. a lawyer is not fast.

He probably thinks it was not registered as an AW with a factory bullet button so it must be illegal. if oyu changed it to featureless with no folding stock, pistol grip, flash hider common features then it is fine. bullet button means nothing and is just a relic of the previous version that cannot be easily changed.

sadly, this is a very common issue. I get guns bounced back to me often due to not understanding the laws. I can't blame them since it is their risk. It just wastes a lot of time and money.

If they do turn it over demand the property receipt. If able take pictures of it. Unfortunately once it is turned over it will almost impossible to retrieve. Your only solution would be small claims court. What PD it is turned over to will make a difference. Some are more up to speed than others.

^^ it is a mac clone not an ar. Upper is frame and serialized. OP has 2 threads on same issue here in ffls. Other thread has picture.
