Ffl LEGR/ firearm retrieval help in riverside.

I need an FFLs help with a firearm retrieval, details below, sorry for the lengthiness but really any help is appreciated.

Hi, so last year on 12/23/19, i was in a total accident, i was T boned and i blacked out and was pulled out by paramedics and taken to the hospital, i was on my way to work that morning and i had a firearm in the back of my vehicle, well when i got out of the hospital, i went to the tow yard to get as much of my stuff out of the car before it was sent up to Perris Ca.

The firearm was completely inaccesible without use of a saw or something that can cut metal etc.

After the car was sent up to Perris, i tried to have them retrieve it and they also said they didnt have the means to do so. I was told the CHp could do it and they had the tools to do it.

So they where able to go and retrieve it, however because perris was part of Riverside County, the firearm was taken to the CHP office in riverside, i was told that i could retake my property but i had to fill out an LEGR form and send it with a $19 to the Doj. So i did that in January,
At the end of the month, i get a letter from Doj stating the form i sejt was an outdated version and i needed to send the new one with a copy of my Id/DL. I did that beginning of February.

It is not end of July and i have not received anything from the Doj, i called them today and actually got a human on the phone.

The guy tells me that my application was processed and sent out to me in June, i have not received anything in the mail, and i know the approved letter is only good for 30 days.

The doj person i spoke with told me that the 30day window starts when if is mailed out, yet they cant tell
Me an exact date it was mailed.
I am assuming that even if i get that letter now, itd be past the 30 day window and id have to start all over again.

So here is where i need an FFLs help: i called the CHP person in charge of property retrieval etc, and he told me that i could have an FFL come and retrieve the firearm if i write a letter and give it to the CHP giving the Ok to do so, then the FFL can take possesion of it and i go through that FFL and do a 10 day wait or i could even sell it to the FFL if they would buy it.

So is there any FFls in the riverside area or even near by that would be willing to help me out? And if so how much would it cost me? I live in san diego and cant drive up there on a whim but will for the necessary. I cant restart the whole dros process again because im moving in august/september.

Please call or text me or pm if you can help! 619-929-7235.

What a mess. Sorry you have to go through that. Have you reached out to local FFLs (Non-chain) like Bullseye Sports etc?

Does anyone up there know of any places that has done this before? And if so a ball park cost for it? I asked the HP if they did buy back type thing because at some point id rather just get what i can for it, but it is off roster and i dont want to lose it if possible.

The fact that the DOJ cant give me any information as to what day it was sent or they cant provide tracking so i can see where in USPS it is etc, like i paid the background fee twice and waited half a year to have to deal with this.

Im really wondering if they purposefully “lost it” so that id nkt be able to get it within the 30 day window and have to give up on it or pay another $20 and wait another 3-6 months again.

If the usps has been holding onto it or lost it, can i go after them civilly for the value of my property since there failure to deliver my lawful mail on time cost me the ability to re obtain my peoperty?

Hope everything works out for you.

An important lesson here is our carry weapons can easily end up in LEO control indefinitely. Therefore our carry weapons should be something easily and quickly replaceable (Preferably by a duplicate in our safe) AND not be something rare or un-replaceable.
