    Please help me, very frustrated.

    Hello,

I’m hoping that a FFL dealer can help me out, or shed some light on my current issue.

About a month ago, I attempted to buy some ammo for work.

I was denied. I was told that it was because I hadn’t bought a firearm within the last 5 years, and my information most likely isn’t current.

I went on CFARS, attempted to update any necessary information in the system, which was weird, because I already have a ownership form from DOJ.

Anyways, they rejected me, 3 times.

I then thought it was possible that I had missed some information in one form or another, and submitted the $19 background check.

I waited a month, and just received my response today:

What’s going on?! I just need to buy some ammo!!!!!!

Make sure that the registered name and address are identical to your ID. I had one case where the name was misspelled in the CA database by one letter (something like Christapher instead of Christopher) and another where the buyer had no middle name but 2 last names on his ID but the database had one last name as his middle name.

Update. This is WRONG: I also believe that you can only buy the caliber for your registered firearms but someone else can correct me on that.

Ammunition Purchases Who is authorized to conduct ammunition purchases and transfers? Do I have to have an eligibility check to purchase ammunition? What do I need to bring to a vendor in order to purchase ammunition? What type of documentation is needed? How is my eligibility to purchase ammunition determined? What is the difference between a Standard Ammunition Eligibility Check and a Basic Ammunition Eligibility Check? How will I be notified of an approved or rejected ammunition eligibility check? Will the Department provide information to persons who are denied?

Imagine that . A gun registered to your name. But we are going to reject you.
Our rights are really being infringed upon. It sad that a law abiding citizen can't even buy ammunition for a pistol registered with the state.

It looks like you tried to register the firearms again with the DOJ. You should have just filled out the " update AFS record" instead of registering them. It will ask your previous address and your current address. It will also ask for one firearm associated with you make model and serial number.

It should have been written as Matthew, but was instead written Mathew.

I went and bought some ammo today. Ran the ammo check twice. Failed the first time, due to spelling my name correctly, and passed the second time, due to the error in my name.

                Who would have thought...

                Thanks for everything guys.
DOJ will probably try to tell you to change your birth certificate so it matches DOJ's records. It might turn out to be a quicker solution.

This is the same thing I thought too. And they basically said as much in their reject notice.

OP I think you are using the wrong form on CFARS. Do not use the 'firearms ownership report'. Do not go into CRIS. On the very first page after logging in to CFARS, select "AFS Personal Information Update"

I only used the firearms ownership form a second time, as a last resort, because I wasn’t sure what was going on, but wanted to make every attempt to make sure that my information was going through.

I had received multiple denials by using the ‘AFS Personal Information Update’, and I honestly wasn’t sure what to do next. I had people telling me to take my gun to the pawnshop and leave it there for 10 days, as well as being told that I wasn’t in the system because too much time had passed between originally registering my gun, and now...

Looks like it is time to get on the phone with someone there.
