    Destroying a firearm

Anyone been in the position of destroying a firearm and submitting BOF form 4546? If so, what was used to verify the destruction of the firearm. I have two that are totally warn out and the customer wants them destroyed. I'll be buying the misc. parts the the receivers will be cut in half.

Never have done this but my first guess is salvage parts.

Cut into small parts as possible, done.

You can take it a step further and melt the parts down, that is destroyed.

On a side note, I used to take old hard drives that needed to be put out to pasture and made sure no data was salvageable.

We have a rather large magnetic chuck here and it works great for destroying a hard drive to not readable status.

Why do people think they need to report the minutia of their activities to the government? Serious question.

Not concerned about "how" to destroy the weapon. I asking what documentation was sent along with the BOF 4546 form that proves the it was destroyed.

If I understand you question, it's because it's required by law. Read the BOF form 4546 and bring yourself up to speed with Part D of the form.

Where our business is located (No. CA) I doubt seriously if we'd ever see a gun buy back program. Up here firearms have been a way of life since CA was settled.

I just know that if a BOF form 4546 is submitted it will be kicked back if there is no proof of destruction. Just wondering what others have done (if anything) in a similar situation.

I think you need to cut the receiver into 3 parts per ATF rules. It looks like the DOJ form is thinking lost in a house fire. I'd send a picture of the cut frame clearly showing the serial number.

ATF link on how to properly destroy: https://www.atf.gov/firearms/how-pro...stroy-firearms

Also I got a $100 gift card from LAPD for a junk bolt action shotgun I couldn't sell for $50.

Just cut the receiver into three pieces. I usually retain the small serial number piece. I have only had the ATF ask once to see the serial number of a destroyed MP5. Other than that no one has ever asked to see the proof.

Turn them into your local Police or Sheriff's department. They will do the paper work and destroy them.
