Rejected! What do I do now?

    Hello friends,

I guess there is a first time for everything. I am 61 and have been buying/selling guns since I was a teenager. I have never been rejected for a DROS before.

    Some background:

I renewed my driver's license online recently after a delay because of the virus. This was on 4/10, 6 days before the expiration date. So I assume my license was never expired.

On 4/20 I went to do a PPT on a rifle. The FFL we used keyed in the info and I thought I was good to go. A few days later the FFL gets a letter saying that the transaction was rejected "because the driver's license/ID card status is not valid and/or the purchaser's name, driver's license/ID card number, and/or date of birth information provided conflict with the files maintained by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)."

I went over the form that he submitted and it is the same as every form I have ever filled out. I have lived at the same address for 38 years.

To see if my license was valid I went to a Sportsmans Warehouse yesterday to buy some ammo. The transaction sailed right through no problem.

At this point I don't know what to do so I am turning to the professionals for advice.

I am getting over the shock of the rejection finally. I'm not angry. I am used to dealing with bureaucracies. I just don't know what to do.

Thanks for listening and thanks in advance for your help.

Is it possible that between 4/20 and now your D/L was brought up to date?

I suppose it is possible. But I renewed my license online on 4/10. I would not think that it would take very long to update the records but you never know.

      How do I appeal this?

Or do I ask the FFL to re-submit the paperwork and cross my fingers?

Thanks very much for your time, I appreciate it.

Blatant failure on DMV's part. Not sure you can do much besides wait for everything to be updated.

Go into the CFARS.DOJ.CA.GOV website. Set up an account. Add your new address. Wait until the DOJ emails stating they have updated the record. Then you will be good to go.

If you renewed on-line, I presume that you got a Federal Limits Apply license and did not get a Real I.D. license.
If so, then you need passport / birth certificate / etc as I.D.

If you renewed your license on line it probably isn't a RealID license. Your old license was grandfathered in but your new one probably says "Federal limits apply" in the upper right corner.

                  You guys are probably right.

But I won't know until I get my new license in the mail.

I am still carrying my old expired license with a printout of my receipt from DMV showing that I paid my fees for my renewal.

                  Thanks again,

I’m curious about what will happen with my DROS. First time handgun buyer.

License expires on 5/10/20, DROS started 5/1/20, so earliest pickup is after expiration on 5/11/20.

Applied for CDL renewal online through the DMV site. This was on 4/25/20. However since it’s an online renewal, I will be receiving in the mail a Federal Limits Apply version. I have a valid US Passport (unexpired) to supplement purchases go-forward, but did not provide to the FFL during the DROS process.

No idea what’s going to happen. Any suggestions or tips?

Edit: Sorry sghart, didn't mean to hijack your thread, but figured it was somewhat of a similar situation.

If you are lucky they might have approved your DROS already and maybe the pick up will go OK.
If not, then your current license is expired and you will be in the same situation as sghart, you will need to re-DROS with your new FLA license and second I.D.
I would make sure that I had my FLA and second I.D. with me for pick up if you are quickly approved...they might need it, might not.

If you don't have a second I.D., that should be your next important project that needs to be done ASAP.

I appreciate the advice but my address is not the problem. My address hasn't changed in 37 years.

If I have to re-DROS, then the first time I can do this will be on 05/31/20, 30 days after my original DROS?

I don't know about that one.
Seems like you could do the second DROS right away since nothing happened the first time around (denied but only for a "paper work" reason), but that is thinking logically and there isn't always logic behind the rules.

For sure you will need your new FLA license and the second I.D., so at a minimum you have to get those first.
I hear the DMV is running slow too, today the DMV is supposed to open some locations so maybe they can get caught up, but your new FLA might take a while.

Hopefully someone else can chime in on the re-DROS date.

My license expired on 4/24 and I renewed on 4/10 on the internet. I drosed a gun on 4/20 and everything was fine. I picked it up already, and just today got my new CDL in the mail. It took them a month to send it to me. I do not know if you went on the DMV website and specifically requested a 2 month extension. There is a form that you could get on the site that extends the expiration date to May 31, 2020. I used that form when I picked up the rifle to show that I had an valid CDL.
