    CDL Expires in Two Weeks

My CDL expires in 2 weeks and I have a gun being shipped from Buds. My FFL is closed and since I live in Los Angeles County I was told that they would accept shipments but would not be drosing until May. DMV told me that since they are shut down my CDL expiration date is being administratively extended for 2 months. Will that work to DROS my firearm if my CDL is expired?

Does DOJ have to issue a ruling on this?

Why did you wait till license expires soon to order firearm that you cannot start dros yet on.? Last minute panic because of virus?

I would not accept it. Others may.

I wouldn't accept it either. You'll need to provide some other form of CA ID.

The only acceptable forms of ID are a CA ID/DL or military ID with duty station orders.

While CA may extend the expiration, there would still be a federal issue.

For the Federal requirements yes, for CA requirements no.

Can you help me understand what statute makes that true?
If I am buying ammo and don't have a Real ID, I would need a birth certificate or passport as a supporting document. It is my understanding that any non-expired County, State, or Federal Photo ID qualifies as valid even without a DMV ID/DL.

IIRC, the CA requirement requires that the photo ID have an address which is why a CADL/ID or Military ID with orders is required.

Because CA law requires the ID to be a CA ID or DL or Military ID with duty station orders.

It is actually if you have a FLA ID (Federal Limits Apply), then you need additional proof that you are a legal US resident. It doesn't replace the requirement to having a CA ID/DL, the same as CA requires proof of residency for handguns which a CA ID/DL is not acceptable proof. The additional document does not eliminate the need for the CA ID/DL.

An older, non-Real ID, is acceptable for ID without additional documents, other than in the case of residency. These are expiring and soon won't be an issue though.

So what you guys are saying is that an unexpired CDL is required at the time of DROS no matter what. What if that CDL is due to expire before the end of the 10 day wait ? My situation is that I DROS a ppt yesterday 04-04 and my pick up date is 04-14... my CDL expires 04-13. I had an appointment tomorrow for license renewal at the DMV but a friend told me today that the DMV offices are closed and that there is a 60 day extension that started for licenses that need renewal after 03-16. Am I still OK with my DROS? Thanks for any help.

I'm told you can renew online but not get real ID

I am in the same boat. My license expires 4/16. I can't renew on line as my last 3 extensions were done on line. I am now over 60 so they require that I show up in person for an eye test and fingerprinting.

I received three rifles at my FFL last week from two on line sellers. I ordered them some time ago. They are rarely in stock even without the virus scare.

When I got the notice for my license renewal I made an appointment for the first available date. Of course then the virus hit and DMVs were shutdown and appointments cancelled.

I was able to start my DROS last Friday. My dealer said that my license only had to be valid at the start of the paperwork. I can pick them up next week.

My concern now is how do I buy ammo in the interim until I get my license renewed. This is Monday morning so I am going to try to find some updated info in person.

Good deal! I thought they changed the law so that you could only buy one every thirty days. Bag as many as you can - while you can.
