Multiple firearms on one DROS

I need some clarification, since Im young and new to the biz...

I have a customer who has purchased 4 firearms via internet auction, one of them being a pistol, the rest long guns. Can all five of these go on one DROS? I would think I have to do two, one for the pistol and the other for the long guns....am I correct? Thanks a ton!!

i thought they could go on a single dros but there would be an extra 19 dollar fee.

There is no way to put multiple firearms on a pistol DROS and the rifle DROS doesn't have any where to place the serial number make and model of a pistol. Unfortunately there is also no way to denote that the person has 2 transfers going to you have to pay all the fees. Kind of sucks.

You are right. The fault lies in the DROS software. They could easily add an option to "Add a Long Gun" and "How Many" button to the Hand Gun form if they really have the need to keep track of the number of long guns.

Government fees are allowed only to recoup costs. If they are already doing a BG check for the pistol DROS, isn't the separate long gun DROS fee illegal?

BTW, why are the hours limited to 7AM - 11PM. Where is it written that firearms transactions are illegal between 11PM and 7AM?

Probably has to do with the fact that DROS transactions are supposed to take place in brick and mortar stores, and with the exception of a 24hr WalMart, who is open during those times? They probably don't want guys at home doing transfers on their laptop or something like that.

I'm not on FFL but dont you have to make sure that all the long guns are from the same seller??

I had 3 long guns come into my FFL last month 2 from 1 guy and 1 from another guy, the 2 long guns went on one dros the other long gun went on a separate dros.

Because CA requires the seller's information, yes. You get to pay multple DROS fees when multiple sellers are involved.

You only have to provide the seller's information when it is a PPT, otherwise there is no reason to submit multiple DROS based on the seller.

Negative. Your FFL wasted your money. However, you can probably educate him on this.

First, ask him if he receives guns from different wholesalers, does he run a DROS for each one of the different wholesalers if you are buying multiple long guns? His answer will be no. If you want a 12 gauge and a 10/22 off my rack, there is no way in hell since one came from Acusport and the other came from RSR, that I am going to make you do two DROS.

So why should you have to do multiple DROS on long guns from different sellers? You shouldn't. Explain to him that the less you spend on state DROS fees, the more money you would like to spend in his shop.

Actually Mike from San Jose Gun Exchange used to be a big advocate for one handgun DROS is a background check for long guns too. His reasoning was since the 4473 has the capability of checking more than just one box for handgun, rifle, and other, that the back ground check on the handgun was sufficient for the back ground check for the long guns as well. The idea that it isn't our fault that the DOJ doesn't give us the option of checking long guns go along with the handgun. He also claimed he went through numerous audits and never was challenged on this.

Personally, I split them up and have them do two DROS. I do not enjoy making my customers pay anymore money to the state than they have to, but this is one I just don't feel like risking. It makes sense to me that the handgun DROS would be sufficient as long as all guns are properly listed on the 4473. I just don't have the guts to do it yet. Maybe I might try it. They won't give me hell until an audit and even then, I like to have at least one good thing for them to write me up for so they feel like they are doing their job!
