    Shipping a Pistol

I will be going to Arizona in a few weeks and would like to ship my pistol ahead of time rather than carrying it with me on the flight. I thought I read that I could send it to myself c/o somebody at the address I am going to but then I read that only I could take possession of it. Does that mean that I must be the one signing for it, or can anyone over the age of 21 sign for it? Then my next question...If I need to sign for it, can a CA FFL send it to a private party in AZ? If so, what should I expect to pay for that service?

I just thought of something...If I put it in a locking case and keep the key or combo, would that suffice to me being the one to take possession?

It can be received by the target facility but they cannot open the package for you to be compliant. A CA FFL cannot ship it to a private party in this scenario, but you can ship it to yourself.

Why not just fly with it. Its really not that much of a PITA. Just check how your airline wants it handled, packaged, and then allow yourself a little extra time before your flight leaves to check it.

It's really not an issue checking your firearm in luggage. I have done it quite a few times and have never had an issue. Frankly I think getting shipping/pick-up, etc worked out would be way more work. YMMV.

I was not planning on checking any luggage. When I fly, I try to keep to a small carry-on/backpack.

If I do check it, is someone holding it on the other side verifying ID or do they just dump it with all the other luggage?
