    Out of state sale

Forgive me if this is in the wrong section.

A friend of mine that lives in Utah wants to buy one of my rifles. Does the sale have to take place in CA or in Utah? No shipping would be involved one of us would be making the drive.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Federal law requires the transfer of a firearm between residents of two different states to go through a FFL in the state of residence of the person acquiring the firearm.

So based on what you said, it would be a Utah FFL.

      What he said.

Transfer must be done through a FFL. [18 USC 922(a)(3)&(5)]

Failure to utilize a FFL equates to a Federal felony for everyone involved with the transfer. [18 USC 924(a)(1)(D)]
