    Tax on consignment?

I am purchasing a gun on consignment at a large store. I got charged tax by the store. I believe this is a PPT sale between myself and the individual who put it up for sale; facilitated by the store.

On a normal ppt There is not tax, why do I pay tax now. Is this right? I was not able to talk to a manager.

Any info or tips would be helpful.

Even a normal CA PPT can be subject to sales tax. If the dealer finds the buyer and/or seller and/or gets involved in the price.

You can always negotiate an ‘out the door’ price. I always do that for consignments. The FFL is still technically collecting tax, but I get a break on it. It helps to pay cash because right there you save the FFL money on card fees.

Consignment prices are usually always negotiable.

Ya I thought about negotiating that but the owner threw in 180 rounds of 357 Sig so I’m not really interested in talking him down 25 bucks.
