    Discarding old DROS records

To burn or to shred that is the question. And do you do on exact dates or just annually on 3 year mark(atf is 20years but ca is only 3)

Don’t keep any longer than required. We shred when it make sense to have a service come out.

We shred at about 3 yrs / 3 mos.. it works out to that based on our filing cabinet size.. I now do rolling shred..used to do a big batch at beginning of each year.

I purge about every 3 months.

I haven't been a FFL for more than 3 years, so I haven't encountered a need to shred or burn old DROS's.

What about the CDTFA? I keep all of my state info together. I keep the Receipts for gun and ammo transfers with the DROS. I'm not sure how long the CDTFA requires us to keep sale tax info.

                Thoughts?

If you have not been an FFL for more than 3 years, what ammo transfers could you possibly have?

Not just ammo transfers but firearms DROS's too. I understand the CA DOJ record keeping retirements.

Since we are collecting sales tax for Items for which we did not sell and remitting it to the state how long does CDTFA require record keeping be kept?

My question was do you guys keep the receipts with the DROS packet?

I keep receipts separate.. . CA DOJ doesn't care about them. Tax people don't care about DROS. We have been audited. I just handed all the receipts over to the auditor. Was a non-issue.

I think the more "official" answer is that you have to keep them to produce during an audit.. Also, since you are pretty small you might have the time to scan them all in and create PDFs. Then I believe you can ditch the paper and hand over files should an audit ever occur. That should be double checked.
