Closing FFL in California & Opening in Another State

It's my understanding that a gun store closing in California has to send 4473's etc. to BATFE and hang on to DROS forms for 3 years. Is that still correct?

Sounds as if you cannot "transfer" your FFL from one location to another but have to reapply for a whole new license inc. fingerprints, application, fees again in the new location (out of state). Has anyone done that here?

You would want a new license anyway. It allows you to get rid of all your old paperwork. You can also call your inspector and see about dropping off your 4473s like in our case it is cases of paperwork. You can just do a change of address but most people do not. Not sure if that still applies when moving out of state as you license number should change.

As far as I know, you can just move your location, as long as your business structure allows it. Sole proprietor wouldn't be an issue, other types might.

Just moving locally can cause your FFL number to change, which isn't an issue in terms of your business or license, but it can confuse some people. The BATF references the old to new number.

While it would be nice to get rid of all your records, do you want to do it without having a copy for yourself?
