1-30 Exemption for Private Security Operator

I was recently made aware of an exemption for the 1-30 for individuals licensed in the State of California as a Private Security Company.

I have such a license and was inquiring if any FFL here has processed such a license holder using that exemption.

I'm going to try and encourage a local FFL to process through DROS (2) Dealer sales of handguns to me utilizing my exemption.

I found the AB202 DOJ bulletin here.

Beyond this what would a FFL here find either more useful or adequate in order to process this type of request.

Thanks in advance for any and all information

20yr old memo. The current PC is here:

    (4) Any private security company licensed to do business in California.
Are you licensed to do business as a private security company (business license etc)? What BSIS license do you have, a PPO?

Thanks Skyhawk. I saw that bulletin as it explained how to process the DROS.
I knew about the current PC but felt I would come up against resistance to processing my transfer based on unfamiliarity.
I still anticipate this going forward.
I was hopeful for a " Oh sure we do transfers like this" Or this is how to approach an FFL and use this...

I appreciate your efforts and welcome further from any

The exemption is not for personal use/ownership.

The exemption is for the CA licensed private security company.
^The firearms are owned by the private security company and the exemption is so they can acquire multiple firearms for issue to their licensed security personnel.

The private security company has a designated employee ("firearm custodian") that the firearms are "registered" to. [PC 28012(c)(1)]

That employee is responsible for ensuring every employee that is loaned a firearm has a "certificate of assignment". [PC 28012(e)(1)]
^Maintains a list of who has what firearm and ensures the employees are BSIS certified.

When the designated employee is no longer employeed by the company, then the company must inform CA DOJ BOF within 7 days and have a new designated employee within 20 days. The firearms are then "registered" to the new designated employee.

If the security company loses it's BSIS certifications or goes out of business, then they have 30 days to transfer out all the firearms it owns. [PC 28016(a)]

          Interesting Quiet.
I read through that penal code. Since I am the owner and qualified manager of my security company I saw that exemption and was intrigued.
I understand it more fully now.
I need to contact the BSIS and inquire of them on this process.
At no time either on the test or as part of the application process it discussed what a PPO needs to do to manage firearms.
I will be amazed if BSIS can offer any feedback.

You are the man once again. Thank you for your tireless effort to educate.
