    Return to Owner 4473

I am an FFL. A gun owner asked me to do some gunsmith work on her pistol and to mail it out of state for more elaborate work to a second FFL gunsmith. I have the pistol back from the out of state FFL. Since it went to a second FFL via (me) first FFL, is a DROS and/or a 4473 required to return to the owner?

Not a FFL, but when I had my local gunsmith send out my Les Baer to ROBAR for refinishing there wasn't any DROS or paperwork needed to take my gun back.

Not needed if it goes through as gunsmithing. THere's some specific PC that supports it, but I don't know what it is offhand.

The firearm was given to you for gunsmith work. It doesn't matter that you sent it out to do some of the work. As long as it is being returned from the FFL who originally accepted it (you), it can be returned with no paperwork.

Is an ATF Form 4473 required when a gunsmith returns a repaired firearm?

No, provided the firearm is returned to the person from whom it was received.
