Transfers - What is the take for California?

Just wondering - what is the take for the state on transfers - is it a percent or flat rate? Please give details - just curious mostly.

With the state budget crisis - it'd be nice to have an idea how much their take is on such a boon of firearm sales.

The Transfer Fee belongs to the Dealer, The DROS fee is the state's take. Now if you want to talk about the tax side of the equation, figure each gun sold by an FFL requires sales or use tax. this includes out of state sales.

All in all, I consider a transfer a wash. The benefit to me is selling other things as part of the transfer. For AR-15's, its Mags, Lowers, Bullet Buttons, Buttstocks, Ammo, etc.

Transfer fee is all dealer. Heard of a prominent dealer in CA that charges $100 per gun. That is crazy.

Jerks like him are a good reason for big government to regulate those fees and yank the licenses of the rip-off dealers. The FCC farmed out most of it's radio license exams to private groups. Don't get caught charging more than what the feds determine is appropiate for this service. They'll bust those violators. AG Moonbeam doesn't do s--- about thieves...

There is NO regulation on how much a dealer may charge to perform a transfer service. It's a case of the buyer (transferee) shopping around and finding the dealer whose fees are acceptable to him/her. The market self-regulates here. Dealers charging ridiculous fees per gun won't get much transfer business. Dealers charing market-acceptable fees will. Don't be so quick to demand Big Brother get involved. That's a very socialist attitude.

I agree with FortCourageArmory on this one. Higher fees could be justified in some cases.

cheapest i know of is dmitry and mike over at independent armament co
they take care of your stuff and treat you well too
they call when your stuff gets there and are great to talk to
great customer service too
don't hesistate to try them out, total for transfer with DROS is $70

PPT fees are limited, everything else is fair game.

Most likely I am one of the cheapest FFL transfer dealers, but only if you are a member of a firearm rights organization (discount). $40 for handgun, $35 long guns with a $15 discount possible.
