    Pre-68 .22 rifle

I have scoured the interwebs and can not find an answer. I have a customer who is inheriting a .22lr rifle from his grandfather. He is a Ca resident but his grandfather is in MN. The rifle in question is an old Remington .22 with no serial number. What is the process or what is the ruling for CA? Is it just like a 80% and must get one from the state?

Penal code section 29180 is the statute requiring serial numbers for manufactured or assembled firearms or for new residents.

    Penal Code 29181:
Section 29180 does not apply to or affect any of the following:
    (e) A firearm that is a curio or relic, or an antique firearm, as those terms are defined in Section 479.11 of Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

Thanks! How would it be run in DROS since DROS requires a serial # and won't accept NA or None?

YMMV, but I always enter "antique1" in the serial number field.

            No Serial No.?

Call the DES helpline, the number is shown in the "Contact Us" at the top of the screen. They'll advise to DROS as either 2ANTIQUE or ANTIQUE2, depending on the situation. Make sure you get their operator number, and include with your notes with the paperwork.
