DES Card Reader iOS iPad for DL

I would think one of those mag stripe readers they use for credit payment services would also work for a DL. Also, have you tried to get a Apple to USB cord and just plug in a regular USB card reader?
I just took a quick look at Amazon and there are readers that will plug right into the Apple port as well as Bluetooth readers, but they are spendy.
What I'm looking for, but have come up empty is a 2D barcode reader that will convert the DMV barcode data format to the DMV magstipe forrmat. I use the Barcode to populate data in my bound book system and it is far more reliable than the magstripe. The magstripe can be completely worn off and the barcode will usually still be perfect.
The user guide for the DROS system mentions 2D barcode readers, but the DES has no support for them. I really wish they would get off their asses and add that functionality. A good coder could probably do it in an afternoon.Greg David

nfs: Yes thanks for the offer. Which magnetic strip reader do you use (make and model)? How do you connect it to the iPad (which port, directly, or through a cable converter)? if a converter, make and model? Also did you need to install an app or anything else or just plugged it in and started working?Comment

ESS: Thanks for the reply. I just ordered an Apple 'camera' 30 pin to USB adapter. I'll see if it works. In the meantime, we'll see what actually works for 'nfs' when 'nfs' responds. As for the '2D barcode reader' which make and model do you use for your PC?Comment

The Card Reader is a ‘Magtek # 21040145 it has a usb connector and
I used it with my windows computer. When I got the Ipad pro 11” I had to get an adapter to go from usb to usb C. Just plugged it in and it worked without any other software or tricks. If you have an older ipad I’m sure whatever connector (lightning?) it would still be good. I just checked and found it on Amazon around $50. Let me know if you need any more info. Happy to help! Thank you nfs. It worked. I have an older iPad so the connection is 30 pin instead of lightning. I used an Apple camera connector, bought off Ebay. That is a 30 pin to USB adapter. Then I plugged in the MagTek DL reader. Lunached DES program and started swiping. No SW or App was needed.Comment

I have a Honeywell Focus MS1690 2D reader, but as I mentioned it is only for my bound book system. I use AIMI eBook for that purpose. It also works for scanning regular bar codes into my POS.Greg David
