One of the more senior FFLs will hopefully check in but here's what I think.

Your DROS will be denied. From the DOJ FAQs:

What happens if there is a problem with the purchaser's driver license?
If DROS information conflicts with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driver license files or if the license is suspended or invalid, DOJ will cancel the transaction and notify the firearms dealer. The purchaser should contact DMV to correct or update information in DMV's files. Once the DMV issue has been cleared, a new DROS may be initiated.

I think you are going to need to update your DMV information before you can successfully complete the DROS. Once you do that, you are still not out of the woods unless DMV issues you a new CDL on the spot (temporary license wont work.) Your current address information won't match your CDL so you will need a second form of government issued ID that shows your new address. I have found the easiest to get is a fishing licence but you may have other (cheaper) options. From ATF's website:

If the purchase is a handgun, you are going to need proof of CA residency. The fishing license will work for that, but more typically people use a utility bill as this one does not have to be government issued.

If you don't have a Real ID and you choose not to get one while at the DMV updating your address, you are going to need another document that establishes you are in the US legally. Usually that is a passport or birth certificate but there are other allowable IDs.

    Hope this helps...

Can I still go through with the purchase? Is there a chance I fail DROS because of this predicament?

      Thanks.
There are CA and Federal requirements. Since your CA ID/DL doesn't have your current residence address on it, you need a government document with your current residence address on it. I would suggest getting your vehicle registration updated. If you are a member of AAA, just go in there. Otherwise, you might be able to do it online. Also, due to recent changes, if your CA ID/DL has "Federal Limits Apply" on it, you will need additional documents, such as a passport or a certified copy of your birth certificate.

You won't fail the DROS, you just won't be allowed to submit a DROS until you have the required documents.

Is what new? the requirement for your CDL address to be current, or the need for a Real ID?

The current address on CDL has been in effect since at least 2016 when I started doing this. I suspect it pre-dates 2016, but I have no personal knowledge before then. You have to have a second government issued ID with your current address to purchase any firearm.

The Read ID thing is new. Its been on again off again but is currently "on".
