Ammo Check Old Address on ID

Sorry if this has been covered. I tried to dig a little but couldn't find the answer.

If a customer has purchased a firearm and they are in the AFS with their current address which is different from what is on their ID or DL (used government doc to satisfy ATF) what do we as FFL holders need to obtain? Does the customer supply "proof of residency"? Just verbally tell us their current address? Must they get a new ID or DL before being able to purchase?

    Thank you!

Contact your DOJ rep, I'm not sure if it was covered in the docs.

Following. I'm in that category where my DL has an old address and up until now I've been using my vehicle registration as a proof of residency for DROS. No idea what I'm supposed to do for ammo purchase. For now I'm planning on either getting a Real-ID or a COE.

Who would have thought it's tougher to buy ammo than guns? Well done CA.

If your DL isn't updated and DOJ doesn't allow us to accept POR (like reg to update it) then it may still be rejected with a COE. I don't know if when you supply COE that they ignore the info on the DL when comparing to AFS.

AFS records can now be updated in CFARS:

The AFS record has to match exactly. The customer needs to go into CFARS and update their information to match. The instructions don't look pretty though.

            Match what is the question.

Match what is on the DL when it gets swiped?
Or match what is at the DMV?
If Match what is at the DMV, then do you recall what the instructions say if swipe is not current? That was the initial question. I don't recall if we use the same "POR" requirements that we do for DROS or not.

So even if I apply for, and receive, a COE, if the address on there doesn't match the DL, the check may still failed? Or would I simply not get a COE because of the discrepancy?

In any case I made an appt this morning to get a Real ID. The earliest appt is 2 months out; some locations are 3 months.

I don't know what they check when they are checking your COE. If you go that route perhaps they just check that it is still valid and approve you regardless of the address on your DL. That scenario was not made clear in the webinar or any of the docs I have received so far.

I have not processed any transactions like that yet to be able to tell you what is happening either.

I suppose I can run one on myself, but I already know all my addresses match so that won't help your scenario where the physical DL address doesn't match currently.

Match the AFS record, which can be changed through CFARS.

I would assume that the address can be updated since you can type in the info. That means that if the magstripe doesn't work, typos can cause a mismatch and rejection.

Not sure about the POR, but I would assume it is the same as for a firearm, perhaps that makes sense so it is wrong.
