    Required CAL DOJ Signage

Ok, been looking for an answer in the PC about the required signage and I haven't found anything saying that I CAN'T do the following, but I'm going to ask anyhow.

We have a new location, we got our FFL down there about 2 months ago, but we have not got our local firearms license yet, so we are not doing anything firearms related there yet. As we are setting up shop part of what we need to plan is where we are going to put these darn signs. I went into our local west Covina Turners and they recently moved and they built a nice little frame around their signs. It looks real clean. What I was thinking about doing is putting the required signs facing into the shop in the top portion of our front windows. I don't want ugly signs taking up wall space, and at this location its real nice looking and new. Slatwall is a nice cherry wood color and such. Can I put these signs on the windows facing inward, even if those windows are going to be covered with bars to meet the requirements of DOJ for a "secure facility"? Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks

EDIT!!!! THIS IS NOT A "NEW LOCATION" for the west Covina shop! We are still in the same place here, this is for a second location 100 miles away!

I would say yes as long as it is readable. We have some on our ceiling.

Maybe put them in the bathroom where they belong?

I think you mean the dedicated FSC Testing Area.

While I don't think that the bathroom would work since it isn't the main area, it seems like anything else goes. I asked about the ceiling and was told that was acceptable.

One issue with the front window is that over time the sun could cook the paper and it could fall apart, which would be very bad if you don't notice and fix it immediately.

To avoid problems, you might want to mount the signs to the bars so that it isn't behind them and partially blocking the signs. While I don't think it is an actual issue, it is something that could be claimed was an issue.

was thinking about framing them in a picture frame and then mounting to the inside of the bars too.

On my ATF visit the agent told me I had to get the LARGE signs and I said really! where do I put them?? I explained to him these are legible if you are standing max 7 ft. from the wall in my office and is it not the point? After thinking about it, he checked it off the to fix list.

The CA PC requirement is that the letters be 1" in height, no requirement in width. Most of the sign requirements are CA, not Federal (ATF).

This is the same invervention I was talking about in our last conversation. ATF pointing out CA laws and taking notes.

Well, if they were to write it up, then it would be fun. I suppose just saying that it is a CA requirement and the CA DOJ inspector doesn't have a problem with it tends to work with some of them. I have not had that problem though.
